P&O Cruises has announced to their customers via email today that they will no longer be charging discretionary daily service charges on cruises beginning May 2019.

P&O Cruises state they have removed the daily charges to ensure your peace of mind once your cruise is booked knowing it has all been taken care of. The current daily service charge amount of £7 will continue to be added for guests aged 12 and over on sailings before May next year.

Daily service charges are currently common practice across most cruise lines as an additional cost on top of your cruise fare. The charge is essentially a tip for all of the hardworking staff that make your cruise possible, however, these “tips” can be removed at your request – often a contentious issue among cruisers.

There is no news on whether other Carnival brands such as Cunard Line will follow suit.
