MS Koningsdam will be Holland America Line’s first Pinnacle-class ship. This will the be the largest ever ship built for the cruise line and is allows them to not only carry a larger number of passengers each cruise, but add a lot more facilities. A second ship of the same class is due to be built and launched by November 2018, this ship is currently unnamed.
The new ship will be built to Panamax standard, this allows the ship to traverse the new Panama Canal wider locks which are currently under construction.
Features of the new ship include a Wine-Blending tasting room and bar, a theatre with a 270 degree panoramic LED screen which is two stories high and 250 feet long. This will be the first ship built by the cruise line to include single occupancy staterooms on launch.
Additional highlights include: Pinnacle Grill and Sel de Mer – the new French seafood brasserie, the Culinary Arts Center with casual Lido Market that includes interactive displays presenting icons of the food and wine world to guests. The Culinary Arts Center also includes individual cooking stations and a dramatic show kitchen for cooking demonstrations and hands-on classes by celebrity chefs and the ship’s own experts.
