New ship to join MS Koningsdam in late 2018
Holland America Line celebrated the keel laying of its new 2,650-passenger MS Nieuw Statendam at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard in Italy last week. A block was lowered by crane into the yard’s building dock, marking the official beginning of construction. The second Pinnacle-class ship is scheduled for delivery in November 2018. Her older sister, MS Koningsdam was delivered to Holland America Line in 2016.

The 99,500-ton ship — the 15th in the fleet — will reflect the ongoing evolution of the company. While much of the ship will be designed similarly to MS Koningsdam, MS Nieuw Statendam will have exclusive public spaces and its own style created by leading hospitality designer Adam D. Tihany and designer and architect Bjorn Storbraaten.
This is the 16th ship constructed for Holland America Line by Italian shipyard Fincantieri, which most recently built MS Koningsdam. The cruise line began its relationship with Fincantieri in 1992 with the building of ms Statendam.
[xyz-ihs snippet=”cmeet2-lower”]Holland America Line’s first ship to be called Statendam sailed in 1898, and this will be the sixth ship in the company’s history to carry the name. In combining the Dutch word for “new” with the classic Statendam, Holland America Line is celebrating the company’s past, present and future.
