Hurtigruten, the famed cruise-ferry operator of Norway has announced they are going to give their fleet a total makeover, starting in 2016. The first four ships (MS Polarlys, MS Kong Harald, MS Nordkapp and MS Nordnorge) will each get the new interior, billed as “New Arctic”
The new look is framed from modern discovery with a contemporary feel, which is stylish and yet unpretentious. The colours will be inspired by the coast and the sea with materials, mainly natural, consisting of wood, slate and leather.
Each refurbishment will cover the receptions, cafes, bistro areas, cabins and the aft deck areas. A range of fresh pastries from the on-board bakery will be offered and outside on deck, guests will be served the catch of the day from barbecue stands.
With over 100,000 annual foreign guests, Hurtigruten’s ships aren’t just for tourists. They are working ships too, delivering vital supplies daily to tiny ports dotted around the entire Norwegian coastline – to date, they are still the only shipping line to charge by the pallet and not by the container (as there isn’t room for them!) and have a total fleet of 22 ships.
