Holland America Line
Holland America Line is another of the many brands owned by Carnival Corporation. They are head-quartered in Seattle, USA.
Holland America Line didn’t offer it’s first actual cruise until 1895. In the first 22 years of it’s history, the line provided cargo and passenger services between Rotterdam (where it was then head-quartered) and the Americas – hence the name Holland America Line.
Today, the cruise line has a combined total of 12,403 staterooms and approximately 23,623 berths available for passengers, making up 12% of Carnival Corporation’s capacity.
In December 1996, Holland America Line purchased an uninhabited 2,400 acre island located off San Salvador for $6 million. Since then, the island has been converted into a private port call named Half Moon Cay for ships (and sometimes other Carnival line ships) to visit. Activities during the daily port calls include horseback riding, swimming, a stingray adventure program, family aqua park and water craft course activities. The cruise line calls at all seven continents with over 570 sailings worldwide each year carrying just under one million passengers. They operate one of the most modern fleets at sea, with over half of their fleet using the popular style Vista-class vessels that other lines such as Cunard Line and Costa Cruises use.
