Disney Cruise Line

Quick info
Disney Cruise Line

General information

Disney Cruise Line is a subsidiary of the famous The Walt Disney Company. Founded relatively recently, Disney Cruise Line was founded when The Walt Disney Company was unable to agree deals with Royal Caribbean International or Carnival Cruise Line to host their licensed characters and film tie-ins. Rumours circulated at the time that it cost The Walt Disney Company as much to setup the cruise line as building a new theme park!

The fleet consists of four ships, this gives them a combined total of 12,800 berths available for passengers.

They were the first cruise ships to be designed at the start to purely accommodate family travellers. On this basis, the majority of staterooms are capable of hosting three people at minimum and none of the ships have casinos onboard.

Disney Cruise Line also owns a private island in the Caribbean, called Castaway Cay – this port is for Disney Cruise Line visitors only. Additionally, the cruise line has a private terminal at Port Canaveral for embarkation and disembarkation of passengers.

All ships have multiple Disney themes running throughout them, such as “Frozen the Musical” or “Star Wars at Sea” – the ships also have an additional unique ship’s whistle that sounds the famous seven-notes of the Disney theme “Wish Upon a Star” from Disney’s Pinocchio and other horns are believed to sound “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” from Frozen!
